PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface plasmon resonance device capable of measuring the dielectric constant of a dielectric sample having a dielectric constant higher than that of a transparent medium. SOLUTION: The surface plasmon resonance device has a cyclic structure 13 at the interface of a transparent medium 12 and a conductive layer 11. When the wavelength of visible light transmitted through the transparent medium 12 to enter a conductive layer 11 is set toλ(nm), the cycle of the cyclic structure 13 is set to (λ/633)×100 to (λ/633)×500 nm and the amplitude thereof is set to (λ/633)×5 to (λ/633)×20 nm. For example, whenλis set to 633 nm, the cycle of the cyclic structure 13 is set to 100-500 nm and the amplitude thereof is set to 5-20 nm. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
