A improved electro-luminescent system for illuminating clothing, footwear, etc., utilizing electro-luminescent light strips and/or LEDs, which are randomly illuminated according to the movement of the person wearing the article(s). In one embodiment illumination control is accomplished by a direct-current to alternating current converter means and various types of switches. These switches may include a random pressure switch, a random or controlled sequencer, a orbiter random motion switch, or any suitable switch or combination thereof. Such switching allows for random or sequenced illumination of light strips and/or LEDs based on user movement.
