<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct viterbi equalizing processing suitable for a multi-value QAM modulation system with a realistic operation quantity. <P>SOLUTION: The viterbi equalizer is provided with a delay wave replica generating means, an error calculating means, and a survival path selecting means. In the equalizer, a desired wave replica generating means is provided with a replica candidate generating means for generating a desired wave replica candidate using the coordinate value of a center-of-gravity position of each block obtained by uniformly dividing a distribution region of a signal point candidate; a candidate error calculating means for obtaining a branch metric for each desired wave replica candidate; a sorting means for selecting a desired replica candidate providing the minimum branch metric; a determination means for determining whether or not the center-of-gravity position of each block matches the position of a signal point candidate; an instructing means for instructing the repetition of narrowing the signal point candidate if the center-of-gravity position does not match the position of the signal point candidate; and a replica adding means for newly generating a desired wave replica additional candidate, corresponding to a signal point candidate adjacent to the sorted signal point candidate in which a corresponding desired wave replica is not yet generated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
