PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To construct the merging part of a shield tunnel without a cutting and a covering from a ground and without requiring a device in a shield machine, and to construct the merging part of the shield tunnel while sharing a merging main tunnel. SOLUTION: In the merging part of the main tunnel and the branch tunnel, these main and branch tunnels are pipe-jacked close together while an approximately circular lining containing segments with projections in upper and lower sections respectively is assembled. In the merging part, a part of the lining separating these tunnels is further removed and the tunnels are continued while the projection sections of the segments with the projections are extruded. In the merging part, the projections are further formed to the upper and lower sections of these tunnels, a steel shell is installed so as to be stretched among these projection sections, a space between the steel shell and the lining is filled with fillers and the lining is unified and an envelope in the cross section of the lining composed of these main and branch tunnels and the steel shell is formed in an approximately circle.
