<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air bag device of which the impact absorbing characteristics are further equalized. <P>SOLUTION: This air bag device is equipped with an air bag which is expanded and deployed by gas generated by an inflator. The air bag comprises an air bag body 18 on the external surface of which the recess is formed in full expansion as a single body, and a surface protecting sheet 19 which circumferentially covers an area corresponding to the recess, and at the same time, is placed in a tensile state by the expansion of the air bag body 18. A length corresponding to the width direction in the tensile state of the surface protecting sheet 19 is formed shorter than the width directional length crossing the recess in the full expansion in the air bag body 18.
