PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide light source technology for a projection type display apparatus for displaying a bright image of good color reproducibility. SOLUTION: A light source apparatus has the constitution in which for each of white light emitted from a 1st light source such as a lamp and monochromatic light emitted from a 2nd light source such as a light emitting diode, the incident angle on a compositing means such as a dichroic mirror is varied to vary the wavelength band of a luminous flux emitted from the compositing means. The incident angle is varied by varying the installation angle of the compositing means, the installation angle and the installation position of the 2nd light source, the installation angle and the installation position of a luminous flux converting means for collimating the luminous flux of the monochromatic light emitted from the 2nd light source, and the installation angle of a reflecting means arranged between the compositing means and the 2nd light source and for reflecting the monochromatic light emitted from the 2nd light source.
