PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of reliably drying ink without causing unevenly dried part. SOLUTION: The apparatus has a first transporting unit 10 for transporting a sheet-like recording medium M; a printing processing unit 1A having a printing unit 20 which forms an image on the recording medium M transported by the first transporting unit 10 by ejecting ink droplets to there; a drying unit 30 which receives and dries the recording medium M discharged from the printing processing unit 1A; and a dry processing unit 1B having a second transport unit 40 which conveys the recording medium M dried by the drying unit 30. A second transport control unit is provided. The second transport control unit causes the second transport unit 40 to perform transport in a first transport mode in which the recording medium M is transported in a first transport pattern same as the transport pattern of the first transport unit 10 during the time from the operation timing of a cutting mechanism 24 for the recording medium M until the recording medium M passes the drying unit 30; and, then, to perform transport in a second transport pattern that is different from the first transport pattern.
