PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of reducing the number of processes of the shape mapping, and capable of specifying the position on the digital map even for the road interval unable to specify with the shape mapping. SOLUTION: The mean speed of a travelling body is calculated by using the shape data representing the shape within a prescribed travelling interval with a coordinate train, and the speed data of the travelling body at the specific position, a kind of travelling interval to be an object of the shape mapping is selected by comparing the mean speed and the legal speed, then the travelling interval on the map data base is specified by the shape mapping, and the travelling interval to be the object of the shape mapping is firstly selected from the mean speed and the legal speed in the travelling interval by specifying the specified position in the travelling interval by using the relative data representing the specified position in the travelling interval and can be narrow downed, for example, a general road is discriminated from a high way, and dependently the time for shape mapping can be reduced.
