The invention concerns the automation of rail transport. According to the method of checking of the free state of rail line a signal is delivered to the rail line and received by receiver-transmitter. The average value of its surrounding at the input of reception part of the receiver-transmitter is determined, after which the decisive statistics isdetermined in the form of cumulative sum, which is compared with the threshold value. In case of exceeding of the threshold value the signal of the free state of rail line is generated, otherwise the signal of occupied state is delivered. At start of receiver-transmitter the average values of waveform envelop in normal and shunt mode is preliminarydetermined, which are used as set ones at determination of cumulative sum. The invention ensures the increase of the accuracy of control.
