<p>Sloping drive plates (11) fitted with magnets (12, 13) reciprocate along a magnetic track (16) under the influence of windings carried in a housing (141). The shuttle (2) also carries magnets and is driven through the shed by magnetic force from the plates (11). The distance between the drive plates (11) and the shuttle (2) is adjusted by arms with lock nuts linked to a guide plate (144) repelled from a magnetic rail (17). Additional windings (15) controlled by sensors, together with buffer springs, assist in reversing the motion at the end of the travel. The housing (141) containing the windings is filled with liquid nitrogen to reduce impedance. The leads (19) from the controller to the windings are wound round the rod (192) to produce repulsion so that there is no friction. The shuttle (2) is made of light, non-magnetic material and has a tapered bottom with a leading edge (25) to produce lift as it moves through the air.</p> |
