An image signal processing method for nonlinear correcting image signals to be inputted to a display device (103), wherein the nonlinear correction characteristic is modified based on a brightness of the place where the display device (103) is located. According to this method, even when the display brightness of the display device (103) uniformly rises due to the ambient light, the characteristic of the brightness perceived by human being for image signals can be made linear.
