PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gateway device which can perform relay operation of real-time network facsimile communication without troubles, even if the network band which is in matching with own device in the network environment connecting the own device, is for example, narrower than the band which balances the maximum modem speed capable of being set between end terminals, in the relay operation of a real time network facsimile communication, and which has high convenience. SOLUTION: When the network band which is set for the own device (permitted to use), is narrower than the band which balances to the relay operation of the maximum communication speed, which is able to be set between the end terminals in the relay operation of the real-time network facsimile communication, information of modem communication speed in a digital identification signal DIS which is exchanged between end terminals, rewrites to a low speed, so as to correspond.
