PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide cemented carbide whose wear resistance and plastic deformation resistance are improved without deteriorating its chipping resistance. SOLUTION: In the cemented carbide composed of a bonding phase essentially consisting of iron group metal by 5 to 20 vol% and a cubic compound phase consisting of compound carbonitride comprising tungsten, at least one kind selected from the group 4a elements in the Periodic Table and the group 5a elements in the Periodic Table, and the balance tungsten carbide with inevitable impurities, the cemented carbide in which a surface layer where the amount of the bonding phase is increased from the surface of the cemented carbide to a depth of 5 to 50μm toward the inside, and also, the amount of the cubic compound phase is reduced is formed, and the average content of the cubic compound phase in the surface layer is 1/10 to 1/2 to the average content of the cubic compound phase at the inside by≥100μm from the surface of the cemented carbide has excellent wear resistance and plastic deformation resistance.
