PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a methacrylic resin composition for an optical member, having excellent optical characteristics hardly causing discoloration and generation of a foreign matter by the heat at molding, having good mold releasability, hardly causing corrosion of a mold and contamination of the mold, and having good moldability. SOLUTION: The methacrylic resin composition for the optical member comprises (a) 100 pts. by mass of a methacrylic polymer composed of 50-99.9 mass% methyl methacrylate unit and 0.1-50 mass% monomer unit copolymerizable therewith, (b) 0.001-0.5 pt. by mass of a compound represented by the general formula (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each an OH group or OCOR<SP>5</SP>; R<SP>5</SP>is an 8-23C alkyl group; with the proviso that the number of the OH groups in the R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>is≤3), and (c) 0.001-0.2 pt. by mass of an ultraviolet absorber.
