A base packaging film (V), in particular a heat sealable film, is prepared and a drying material (T) is prepared separately in the form of one or more flat sections or strips. The drying material is applied, preferably sealed, onto one side of the base film (V) which, on completion of a package manufacture, lies on the inner side of the package facing the moisture sensitive product. The base packaging film (V) is a continuously moving endless band and the drying material (T) is initially produced as an intermittently moving endless strip. Continuous drying material is cut (40) transverse to the conveying direction to form individual flat sections or strips (Tp). The dimensions of the cut sections or strips are such that when they are applied onto the base film and the package is finished they lie completely inside the package and not is the area of the sealing edges. The endless drying material is intermittently fed to a cutting area in which the continuously moving base film is heated and after cutting is sealed as individual sections or strips sealed onto the heated film. Drying material sections are placed parallel to each other on the base film. The conveying direction (80) of the endless drying material strips or sections in the cutting area is the same as that of the base film. Independent claims are also included for: (1) packaging moisture sensitive products(P) in which: (i) a packaging film is manufactured as claimed; (ii) a product to be packaged is prepared and fed to the packaging film and (iii) the package is closed either by folding over the packaging film onto itself or by joining to a further packaging film and heat sealing the edges; (2) plant for manufacturing the packaging film which includes: (i) equipment for supplying a base packaging film (V), in particular a heat sealing film; (ii) equipment for preparing a drying material in the form of a flat sections or strips; and (iii) applying the drying sections or strips onto one side of the base film (V); (3) plant for packaging moisture sensitive products(P) comprising: (i) equipment for supplying packaging film; (ii) equipment for manufacturing a product to be packaged and feeding to the packaging film; (iii) heat sealing apparatus for closing the package (Vp) around the product either by folding over the base film or by joining one area of packaging film with another and heat sealing.
