PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique that implements a timeout as one of alternatives for nondeterministic choice by using a synchronous communication server allowing nondeterministic choice implementation. SOLUTION: If a communication request sent from a client has a timeout alternative, the lapse of the specified time is monitored, and when the time lapse is asserted, a corresponding message is sent to the communication request. The progress status of synchronous processing about the communication request is then determined. If synchronous processing has been completed, the time lapse is ignored. If synchronous processing has not been started, synchronous processing is stopped. If synchronous processing is in progress, a timeout is recorded in an area ensured in association with the communication request and referred to at synchronous processing, to either ignore the time lapse or notify the time lapse to the client.
