Testing conversion efficiency of motor vehicle catalytic converter, by comparing temperature measurements at given point in catalyst with those in reference catalyst

Conversion efficiency is tested using a method comprising the following steps: (A) measuring the temperature at a given point in a reference catalyst operating under given conditions over a given period of time; (B) injecting a given quantity of fuel into the combustion chamber (1) in the catalyst (4) being tested and/or directly into the engine exhaust system; (C) measuring the temperature at the same point in the catalyst under the same conditions and over the same period of time as for the reference catalyst measurements; and (D) comparing one or more diagnosis values obtained from the temperature measurements for the two catalysts.
