The invention relates to a device comprising a mobile arrangement mounted in a circular housing (1) and embodied in such a way that it can be driven in rotation about the axis (XX') of the housing (1). Said arrangement comprises a coaxial peripheral crown (10) provided with a scale and a base (4) having an inner face carrying a geographical map which is centred in such a way that the axis (XX') of the housing (1) passes through the area for which the direction is sought, an index couple (11), an arrow (16) fixed to the housing (1), a mark (17) which is fixed to the bottom and is to be positioned on the area of the map where the user is located, and a support element which is fixed to the housing (1) and is used to position said housing on a bearing element (21), forming a pivot.
