A bag making and packaging machine (1) for forming a packaging bag by transversely sealing a cylindrically formed film (f) by bringing a pair of sealing jaws (57,58) into contact with each other, so as to minutely control the transverse sealing pressure effected by the contact of the sealing jaws. Support blocks (59, 60) for supporting the sealing jaws (57, 58) are attached to front/rear and left/right slide bases (18, 19, 20, 21) which are coupled by cranks (83, 84), respectively. Then, the slide bases (19, 21) are moved forward and rearward by a servo motor (87) through a ball screw (89) to thereby cause the front and rear sealing jaws (57, 58) to come into contact, and to leave away from, each other. Further, return springs are interposed between one of the sealing jaws and the support block therefore and the servo motor (87) is so controlled that the return springs contract due to the contact of the sealing jaws to generate a pressure proportional to the amount of contraction of the springs and the resultant pressure becomes a target sealing pressure. <IMAGE> |
