PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning optical device most suitable for a high speed and image quality color image forming apparatus, and to provide the image forming apparatus using it. SOLUTION: The scanning optical device for scanning a plurality of laser light fluxes on a plurality of electrophotographic photoreceptors to form an image includes a multi-beam laser light source 1 for emitting the plurality of the laser light fluxes from a single element, and a polygon mirror 6 for deflecting the plurality of the laser light fluxes in which the multi-beam laser light source 1 emits.
