PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a convenient vegetation base capable of effectively greening the top of an artificial base, a wall surface, a slope or the like, having lightweight and facilitating the maintenance; and to provide a greening method by using the vegetation base. SOLUTION: The vegetation base is obtained by dispersing or mixing a temperature-sensitive water-absorbing and water-draining resin having 20-40°C sensing temperature in 5-10 g/L proportion with a long-fiber peat moss in which the content of fibers having≥10 mm fiber length is≥50 v/v% without using a binder, or coating them.
