PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving apparatus for reducing false detection and for detecting the quantity of drive using a simple constitution. SOLUTION: The driving apparatus is an apparatus for implementing zoom drive of a camera, and has a CPU 11 including control means, a lens driving circuit 12, a zoom motor 5, and a rotation detecting circuit 13 including a PI (a photo interrupter) and a slit blade for detecting the quantity of the zooming drive (the quantity of rotation of the motor) as the number of actually measured output pulses. After the zoom motor 5 is activated and the zooming is implemented, a gear train linked to a lens reversely rotates at a given angle and stops if the motor is turned off and stops. The CPU 11 checks a period of the PI output pulse after the zoom motor 5 is turned off, detects a start of the reverse rotation, finds the number of the PI pulses due to the reverse rotation, subtracts it from the number of the actually measured output pulses of the PI, and finds accurate data of the quantity of rotation of the motor.
