PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an aqueous pigment dispersion having excellent fine particle dispersibility, storage stability and discharge stability when used as ink for ink jetting process and capable of forming an image showing color forming properties and gloss not achieved heretofore.

SOLUTION: The method for producing the aqueous pigment dispersion has a process for dispersing the pigment dispersed mixed liquid, prepared by mixing at least a pigment and a dispersant in an aqueous medium, in a superfine dispersed state using microbeads with a diameter of 0.02-below 0.2 mm.
