摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a light and high-contrast image, in a reflection type or a semi-transmission reflection-type liquid crystal, adopting an internal surface reflection system, provided with a reflecting electrode or semi-transmissive reflecting electrode on the side of a substrate which faces the liquid crystal. <P>SOLUTION: A reflection-type liquid crystal has a reflecting electrode (14) on the side facing the liquid crystal on the substrate (10) and a 1st retardation plate (106), a 2nd retardation plate (116), and a polarizing plate (105) on the side opposite to the liquid crystal on a 2nd substrate (20). The twisting angle and &Delta;nd are 230 to 260&deg; and 0.70 to 0.85 &mu;m, respectively. The &Delta;nd of the 1st retardation plate is 150&plusmn;50 nm, and the &Delta;nd of the 2nd retardation plate is 610&plusmn;60 nm. The angle formed by a transmission axis or absorption axis of the polarizing plate and the optical axis of the 2nd retardation plate is 10 to 35&deg;; and the angle formed by the optical axis of the 1st retardation plate and the optical axis of the 2nd retardation plate is 30 to 60&deg;.
