PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an end face machining method for a motorcycle muffler outer cylinder or tail pipe, allowing easy machining with good workability and giving uniform quality to the finished face. SOLUTION: An end face 1A of the outer cylinder 1 or an end face 15A of the tail pipe 15 is subjected to welding into a smooth protruded shape following the shape of the end face with a teaching robot mechanism or a profiling control mechanism. The end face 1A of the outer cylinder or the end face 15A of the tail pipe is melted into the smooth protruded shape with welding even when an acute-angle end face is produced on the surface thereof during cutting. With welding such as TIG welding, arc welding or laser welding, it is moved following the shape of the end face with the teaching robot mechanism or the profiling control mechanism. This allows easy machining with good workability and gives uniform quality to the whole periphery of the end face in a three-dimensional shape. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
