PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copying device for backup which can be connected externally to a portable personal computer or the like. SOLUTION: This copying device 8 connected to the external connection terminal 7 of a personal computer 1 via a cable 83 has a hard disk storage device 82 for backup and a control part 9 storing copy processing software. When the personal computer 1 is started, the copy processing software of the copying device 8 connected by the cable 83 is loaded before reading a master boot record from an internal hard disk storage device 2 to make a central processing unit (CPU) of the personal computer 1 execute the copy processing software for performing backup from the internal hard disk storage device 2 to the hard disk storage device 82 for backup.
