PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a doctor blade device which can make the thickness and width of a formed coating film constant and enlarge the width of the coating film. SOLUTION: The doctor blade device 10 has a stage 1 for forming the coating film and a blade 4 with a pair of side plates fitted to both sides. The blade 4 is arranged on the stage 1 while a prescribed gap is kept. While a liquid coating material 2 is supplied from above to an area surrounded by the blade 4 and the side plates 3, the blade 4 is moved to the side of the supply area so that the coating film 12 having a thickness corresponding to the gap is formed on the upper surface of the stage 1. The distance w between the side plates 3 in the vicinity of the lower end part of the blade 4, in an area downstream in the moving direction from the blade 4, is gradually enlarged downward.
