PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and equipment capable of inhibiting temperature rise on a tank side wall surface at the time of a fire in the tank and speedily extinguishing the fire in the tank. SOLUTION: A fire extinguisher 100 is sprayed from around the tank side wall surface 13 higher than the liquid surface 16a of a flammable liquid 16 in the cylindrical tank 12 for storing the flammable liquid 16. The fire extinguisher is sprayed at a prescribed angle in the circumferential direction of the tank 12 relative to the direction of the center of the tank 12. Accordingly, a cyclonic rising air current 22 is generated at the center of the tank, and the fire extinguisher 100, being whirled in the circumferential direction of the tank 12, is fed to extinguish the fire.
