PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a flat surface fluorescent lamp without using frit glass in sealing two sheets of glass plates. SOLUTION: By heating and melting the end part of glass plates 1a, 1b by burners 3a, 3b, this end part itself is sealed directly. Thereby, frit glass is not used, thus a substance hazardous to the environment such as lead contained in the frit glass and an organic solvent or the like used at sealing of the frit glass is not required.
