The assembly (1) to pack items into packagings has a conveyor for the items to be packed and a conveyor for the packaging at the zone of the insertion mechanism (2) and the advance system (3). The insertion mechanism has at least one push rod (5A-5C), and the advance system has at least one covering tongue (7A-7C), moving across the direction of material travel. The push rods and covering tongues are coupled together with a servo motor drive (8,9). A further coupled servo motor drive (11) gives an adjustable oscillating movement parallel to the material movement. The drives are controlled separately from a control unit.
