A paper web moistening assembly is located after a drying station. The dry web passes around a rotating moistening cylinder (4) whose temperature is lower than that of the web. Prior to contact with the steam box (6) the web is coated with a water film (9). The moistening cylinder has a hydrophilic contact zone with an engraved water drainage interface. The moistening station is a steam box (6) or water spray extending the full width of the web.
