A system for automatic determining of the actual position of an item, e.g. for robotic processing, has short focal length cameras (2) and an image processing control (5) with VDU (4) to compare the actual images with stored templates. The images are moved and rotated on the VDU until a point match is obtained, or until the item is rejected.
