A method of manufacturing fire-proof fibers of crosslinked polyacrylate by treating in an autoclave a standard cable of acrylic fibers with hydrazine, sodium hydroxide, acid and metal salt solutions interspersed by rinsings in such a way that the titre of the treated fiber is 1.5 times that of the starting fibers. In the first, crosslinking, step a hydrazine based solution is used at 100-120[deg]C. In the second, hydrolysis, step a solution of NaOH is used. In the third, neutralization, step an acid solution is used. In the fourth step a solution of a salt of a metal, especially zinc is used. An independent claim is included for fibers produced by the method with a strength 15cN/tex and elongation greater than 30%. |
