The fume hood has air flowing in through a working aperture (17) in the region of the transition between the side walls (14, 15) and the rear wall (13). There are also suction apertures (e.g. 20) which extend in the vertical direction from about the of the bench plate (11) to roughly the height of the upper limit of the working aperture.
