An organic EL device (30) comprising an anode (31), a cathode (32) and an organic layer (33) is disclosed. The cathode (32) comprises a protective conductor layer (32b) arranged opposite to the organic layer (33), a main conductor layer (32a) interposed between the protective conductor layer (32b) and the organic layer (33), and a barrier layer (32d) which is interposed between the protective conductor layer (32b) and the main conductor layer (32a) and composed of an insulator or a semiconductor.
