FIELD: metal working. ^ SUBSTANCE: method comprises supplying high-concentrated oxygen to the finely divided powder of pyrophoric metal, e.g. zirconium or titanium, that is ignited upon contact with oxygen whose burning ignites the mixture of metal powders, and their cooperative combustion provide the ignition of oxygen lance. The device for igniting oxygen lance comprises igniting charge housed in a sleeve covered from one of the ends. The inner diameter of the sleeve is larger than that of the lance mouth.
