A novel method for the preparation of a beta quinacridone pigment is described by the oxidation of 6,13- dihydroquinacridone in the presence of polyvinyl pyrrolidone, a catalyst and optionally a particulate quinacridone and/or a particle growth inhibitor using hydrogen peroxide as the oxidant.
