PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a constant velocity universal joint with a pre-load means therein for always making balls abut on a ball track to suppress rotating backlash, having further compact construction for securing sufficient strength, load capacity and durability, suitably used for an automobile steering shaft, in particular. SOLUTION: Six balls 3 are arranged. A ratio r1 (=PCD<SB>BALL</SB>/D<SB>BALL</SB>) of a pitch circle diameter PCD<SB>BALL</SB>(PCD<SB>BALL</SB>=2×PCR) of the ball 3 to a diameter D<SB>BALL</SB>is set to be a value in a range of 1.5≤r1≤4.0, and a ratio r2 (=D<SB>OUTER</SB>/PCD<SB>SERR</SB>) of an outer diameter D<SB>OUTER</SB>of an outward member 1 to a pitch circle diamter PCD<SB>SERR</SB>of a serration (or a spline) of an inside joint member 2 is set to be value in a range of 3.0≤r2≤5.0.
