OPTICAL CRACK DETECTION SYSTEM

A system is provided to determine the presence of cracks in parts (40). The presence of cracks is determined through the use of an imaging device (80) and illumination source (70). The part (40) is moved along a track (16) where it is sensed by a position sensor (49) to initiate the inspection. The illumination source (70) projects a sheet of light (71) onto the part (40) to be inspected. The line formed by the intersection of the sheet of light (71) and the part (40) is focused onto the imaging device (80). The imaging device (80) creates a digital image which is analyzed to determine if cracks are present on the part.
