<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air cleaning element capable of achieving effects of removing/decomposing inorganic origin of contamination (contaminant) as well as effects of removing/inactivating organic origin of contamination (contaminant). <P>SOLUTION: The air cleaning element comprises an ion generating element 101 with an ion generating electrode 103 for generating positive/negative ions, and a catalyst 112 for removing/decomposing the contaminant of air 104. Contaminated air 104 is cleaned with the positive/negative ions generated from the ion generating electrode 103.
