PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a game medium storage volume detector which can reduce the production costs by accomplishing all operations without disturbing the business of the game parlors even when abnormality is caused in the ball quantity sensor of the storage tank and a game medium storage volume display device using the same. SOLUTION: The apparatus has spare sensors S11-S18 which are installed for the regular sensors S1-S6 and detect the presence of the pachinko balls and an abnormality judging means which judges whether the regular sensors S1-S6 and the spare sensors S11-S18 operate normally or abnormally. The regular sensors S1-S6 and the spare sensors S11-S18 are arranged alternately and the spare sensors S11-S18 detect the presence of the pachinko balls preliminarily for any one of the regular sensors S1-S6 adjacent thereto. When the regular sensors S1-S6 operate normally, the storage volume of the pachinko balls is calculated using the regular sensors S1-S6 but when the regular sensors S1-S6 operate abnormally, the storage volume of the pachinko balls is roughly calculated using the spare sensors S11-S18.
