<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a harmful exhaust gas reducing method for an internal combustion engine, minimizing the exhaust amount of harmful substances in exhaust gas in the best possible operated conditions of the internal combustion engine and a NOx storage catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: In the harmful exhaust gas reducing method for the internal combustion engine having the NOx storage catalyst, reducing agent is timely and variably supplied thereto for making a NOx storage body empty in a regeneration process.
