PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image distortion correction apparatus whereby the accuracy in correcting distortion of an English text image in the sub scanning direction can be enhanced. SOLUTION: The image distortion correction apparatus prevents adjacent letters from being in contact with each other by extracting rectangles including only longitudinal components of the letters, extracts the rectangles A1, A2 or the like including the longitudinal components as above and thereafter obtains an average of distances between center coordinates of the rectangles A1, A2 or the like in the unit (Z1 or the like) of strips, and calculates a magnification in the sub scanning direction in a way that an inter-rectangle distance W is equal to each other between a non-distortion region and a distorted region, so as to be able to enhance the accuracy in the distortion correction of the English letter image in the sub scanning direction.
