PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the loss of a light amount while attaining compactness even in the case of providing both imaging and projecting functions. SOLUTION: When imaging is performed by a CCD 3, the inclination of a total reflection mirror 4 is set so as to allow light from an outer part after being reflected against the total reflection mirror 4 so as to be incident to the CCD 3. A monitor image generated by a liquid crystal panel 7 is projected via a projection optical system 5. The projection image is totally reflected against the total reflection mirror 4 and displayed on a screen 8. When light emitted from a light source 6 is projected, light transmitted through the liquid crystal panel 7 is totally reflected against the total reflection mirror 4 by changing the inclination of the mirror 4, so as to be emitted to the outer part via an imaging optical system 2.
