PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record additional information for enabling a user to identify data on the data while keeping compatibility with the conventional data recording format. SOLUTION: The present invention is provided with: a front end circuit 13 for receiving a television broadcast signal broadcasted from a broadcasting station 2; a video processing circuit 15 for extracting a part of information contained in the received television broadcast signal and outputting the information as still picture data DP of JPEG format; a CPU 10 for embedding additional information INF for identifying the still picture data DP in the still picture data DP without changing the JPEG format; and a hard disk drive 20 and memory card module 21 for recording the still picture data DP with the additional information INF embedded therein. Thus, the additional information INF for enabling a user to easily identify the still picture data DP can be embedded in the still picture data DP while keeping compatibility by maintaining the JPEG format.
