PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently decomposing an alkyl hydroperoxide contained in an alkyl-hydroperoxide-containing solution. SOLUTION: The method comprises decomposing an alkyl hydroperoxide contained in an alkyl-hydroperoxide-containing solution in the presence of a ruthenium compound or of both a cobalt compound and a ruthenium compound and in the presence of an aqueous alkali solution.
