PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an ester compound, comprising reacting a carboxylic acid with a hydroxy compound in the presence of a hydrolase as a catalyst, by which the ester compound, especially a polyester, can efficiently be produced in high reaction conversion. SOLUTION: This method for producing the ester compound is characterized by reacting the carboxylic acid with the hydroxy compound in the presence of the hydrolase, especially an ester hydrolase, in the absence of a solvent in a closed system, while reducing the atmospheric pressure and supplying an inert gas.
