PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic camera and a current control method for realizing low power consumption by using a method different from that of prior arts. SOLUTION: An emitter follower circuit 110 converts an output signal outputted from an OS terminal 100 of a CCD 14 into a current capable of driving a signal processing circuit (AFE) of the post-stage. Meanwhile an emitter follower current control circuit 120 provided for the purpose of switching the current of the emitter follower circuit 110 can switch the current of the emitter follower circuit 110 into two stages by a control signal transmitted from a CPU to the emitter follower current control circuit 120. For example, when the CPU 20 judges photographing of a dark scene in the case of photographing a moving picture, the CPU 20 controls the emitter follower current control circuit 120 to decrease the current of the emitter follower circuit 110.
