A ceramic metal halide lamp having a luminescent tube containing, as a material sealed therein, at least of a dysprosium halide, a thulium halide, a holmium halide, an erbium halide and a terbium halide, mercury, a rare gas, thallium halide and a sodium halide, wherein a cesium halide is contained in the luminescent tube in an amount of 10 mole % or less relative to the total moles of metals in a dysprosium halide, a thulium halide, a holmium halide, an erbium halide and a terbium halide contained in the luminescent tube, and wherein when the ceramic metal halide lamp is lightened up by the use of a ballast for a test for a high pressure mercury-vapor lamp, the tube wall load of the luminescent tube is 22 to 25 W/cm<2>.
