PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a luminous pottery that is capable of uniformly forming a luminous layer so that high luminous properties are obtained, that is capable of securing the smoothness of the surface and enhancing the strength and that is capable of using everywhere without depositing stains and of obtaining excellently aesthetic appearances. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method comprises forming each layer by supplying each material on the surface of the pottery substrate 11 in a cover coat state excellent in fluidity, for example, forming luminous layers 12, 13 by glazing and firing a cover coat for luminous layers containing a water resistant luminous material and a frit and forming a transparent glass layer 14 as a protective layer. Thus, the method can easily deposit each material uniformly on each part of the surface of the pottery substrate 11 to obtain the stabilized and uniform luminous layer 12, 13 and the transparent glass layer 14 through calcination. Consequently, the afterglow appears uniformly on the whole surface of the pottery, the aesthetic appearances due to the afterglow is made excellent and the luminous layer is surely arranged even the pottery has complex surface profile.
